A desktop PC is the better choice if you do not need to carry your computer around regularly. At the same price, it will usually deliver better gaming performance, quieter operation and lower temperatures because it has more effective cooling and its components are not restricted by a laptop's power limits. You can also upgrade the graphics card, processor, RAM, SSD or power supply over time instead of replacing the entire computer after a few years. Repairs are generally easier and less expensive too. A laptop makes more sense for frequent travel, school or working in multiple locations; for gaming and long-term performance at home, a desktop PC is usually the better investment.

Before plugging in for the first time, check inside the case. For powerful gaming builds with heavy GPUs and CPU coolers we use internal transport padding to protect components during shipping. Unscrew the side panel and carefully remove this padding. Running the PC with it still inside risks overheating, blocked fans and damage.
This is by far the most common issue on first setup. Make sure your monitor cable (HDMI or DisplayPort) is plugged into the graphics card — the horizontal connectors in the lower part of the back panel — not into the motherboard (vertical connectors at the top). If the PC has a dedicated GPU, the video outputs on the motherboard are disabled.
Try manually selecting the correct input on the monitor using its buttons (Input / Source — e.g. HDMI 1 or DisplayPort). Some older monitors don't auto-detect a new signal. Another cause can be the GPU or RAM modules having slightly loosened during shipping. With the PC off and unplugged, gently but firmly press the graphics card and RAM sticks back into their slots on the motherboard.
Check that the power cable is firmly seated in both the PSU and the wall socket. Then make sure the rocker switch on the back of the PSU (I/O) is flipped to the "I" (On) position.
Fan and case lighting can usually be controlled via a hardware button (LED or RESET) on the front or top panel of the case. If the A-RGB components are connected and synced to the motherboard, you can change colours in Windows using your motherboard manufacturer's software (e.g. Asus Armoury Crate, Gigabyte Control Center, MSI Mystic Light, etc.).
If your build includes a motherboard with an integrated Wi-Fi module, you will find antennas included in the motherboard box (or accessories bag). These must be firmly screwed onto the gold-threaded connectors on the rear panel. Without them, wireless range and Bluetooth performance is minimal.
